Jesus Lozano: “Santa Clara” style of Etched Pottery

Jesus Lozano is the only artist in Mata Ortiz to attempt the “Santa Clara” style of etched pottery.  The pots are difficult to form, as the bottom of the trough is very thin, and easily punched through—which ruins the pot.  The stores in Santa Fe claim that Jesus’s work is superior to those of Santa Clara/Santa Idilfonso Native American potters.
